I have a hard time nailing down my favorite book. Part of the reason is because I have so many and it's hard to narrow it down and pick just one.
Most of the time when people ask me what my favorite book is, I say
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card or
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald because they're both books that have been favorites for such a long time.
But in the past few weeks, I've been talking books that I love and elements of stories that I love and even writers that inspire me. And on book keeps coming up more than others.
Here's what I love about it. First, it's an amazing and page turning plot about a girl who was abandoned by her mother when she was eleven and is not struggling to just get
more from her life. There are several mysteries that crop up in the book--to the point where I felt a little unsure of what was happening in the beginning, but I was well rewarded when everything tied together in the end. The characters are wonderful--they're full developed, well realized, and flawed in a way that makes them so real. I want these characters to be my friends. And as always, the writing is exceptionally beautiful, and there were a number of quotes that I read and thought
"Yes, that is exactly how I've felt." And for those reasons,
Jellicoe Road is my best book ever.

I haven't read this one. Only The Great Gatsby of those you have mentioned. I'm dying to read Ender's Game, I love Card's Pathfinder. Jellicoe Road is completely new to me, but as it's a "best book ever" it's going on the TBR list!

I absolutely agree! Actually, I love anything Melina Marchetta writes! omg! Froi of the Exiles is waving at me from the bookshelf right now XD cant wait to finish school next week and finally read it ~ Im not reading it now cuz that book will make me stop everything in my life to read it one seat. Marchetta's books are impossible to put down!
Yay!! and btw! less than a month for the release of Unraveling! yay!!! =D
Jellicoe Road is pretty amazing, but my favorite Marchetta contemporary will always be Looking for Alibrandi. However, I'm more fond of her fantasy work. Finnikin of the Rock, and especially Froi of the Exiles are breathtaking.
I think it's always good to know what your favourite - or favourites - are, it helps you learn a bit about yourself, and allows you to teach others about you too. I haven't read this book yet, I'll have to add it to my list...
@Jessica, you'll definitely have to put this on your list. I actually love all of Melina Marchetta's books. She doesn't disappoint.
@Natalia Froi is waving at me too! I'm torn between wanting to just set aside a weekend and read it straight or forcing myself to take my time. Because once I read it, it's going to be over.
And yes! Very exciting :)
@Maja, oh my gosh I love Finnikin. When I read that a few years ago, I knew I'd like it, Melina Marchetta and fantasy! But wow. I got to the end and read the whole book a second time. It was so wonderful.
@Bonnee, it's a good one :)
I haven't read that one - but it looks pretty good! And I agree, The Great Gatsby is a great book, though the characters are unlikeable people, which is how they are supposed to be. I don't know how I could answer that question. I like too many books.
This book sounds interesting...
There are sooooo many good books out there! I can not keep up! I have not read this one. :( Sounds interesting. I am a Pride and Prejudice fan myself! :)
This book sounds really good! It is definitely going on my TBR list!
